Hello, October 🍂
Have you reached for the winter coat yet, or are you still hoping for one more afternoon of sunshine? We’re somewhere in between here at Style, although we’ll happily take any excuse to bring out our favourite cosy knits!
There’s something lovely about this time of year. The changing leaves, those crisp mornings and the thought of getting home, putting the kettle on and settling in for the evening. Getting out of bed when it’s still dark, on the other hand… we’re not quite so enthusiastic about that part!
As L. M. Montgomery wrote, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Looking at all the beautiful autumn colours around us, we’d have to agree.
Life is as busy as ever between the shops and home, but this month we’re making time for a few family milestones, another birthday celebration and, of course, a little wardrobe chat. So pop the kettle on and catch up with us!
A Little School Bag & a Big Milestone 🎒
The baby of the McAleers has started preschool! It’s hard to believe Naomh is ready for this next chapter, but with two older sisters to help prepare her, she certainly hasn’t been short of advice.
Between Grace and Lucie, we’re sure she’s heard all about how school works. Whether she’ll take their advice or decide she knows best herself is another matter!
There’s something about seeing your youngest with her own little school bag that makes you stop for a moment. You spend so long in the middle of the busy baby and toddler years, and then suddenly they’re heading off on an adventure of their own.
Naomh was more than ready, which makes it lovely, even if the rest of us are still wondering where the time has gone. A proud family moment, with just a little lump in the throat too.
We’re sure plenty of you have had similar milestones with children or grandchildren recently. It never gets any less emotional, does it?

Daniel’s Birthday Celebrations Continue… 🥂
Why keep a birthday to just one month when you can stretch it into the next?
Daniel’s celebrations are carrying right into October, with dinner at The Brewer’s House giving us another lovely excuse to get together. We’re certainly not going to argue with an evening of good food and good company!
Most of Alice and Daniel’s catch-ups involve stock, the shops or something that needs sorting, so it will be lovely to swap the shop floor for a dinner table and spend some time together outside Style.
Of course, saying there’ll be no shop talk is probably a little ambitious. We might manage to get as far as the starters before someone says, “Oh, before I forget…”
Thankfully, their other halves will be there to steer the conversation back again!
When everyone is busy, it’s easy to keep saying, “We must get something organised.” Sometimes a birthday is just the nudge you need to put a date in the diary. Here’s to making time for more of those evenings.

Layers, Layers & More Layers 🧣
Now, let’s talk about that “coat on, coat off” weather!
You leave the house feeling chilly, warm up by lunchtime and need another layer again before you’re home. This is exactly when a few lovely, easy-to-wear pieces make all the difference.
Start with what you already love. A favourite shirt looks lovely with a soft knit layered over it, especially with the collar and cuffs peeking out. Add jeans or your trusty Robell trousers, and you’ve an outfit ready for lunch, shopping or whatever the day brings.
A gilet is another handy option when you want a little warmth without reaching for a full coat. Wear it over a lighter top on milder days, then bring out the chunkier knitwear when the temperature drops.
And if your wardrobe is looking a little dark, try bringing in some rich autumn colour. Burgundy, chocolate brown and warm neutral shades are beautiful together. You don’t need to change your whole outfit either; sometimes one lovely knit or a scarf is enough to freshen up pieces you’ve had for years.
Our advice? Have a little play with what’s already in your wardrobe. Try that knit with a different pair of trousers, layer a shirt underneath or add a gilet you wouldn’t normally think to wear with it. You might find a new favourite combination!

Product of the Month: The Layer You’ll Keep Reaching For 🤎
This month, we’re giving the spotlight to the Barbara Lebek Padded Gilet in Sand.
You know those pieces that make getting dressed that bit easier? This is one of them.
The soft sand shade is easy to work into your autumn wardrobe, whether you love classic cream and navy or prefer richer browns and burgundy. The padded design adds a little extra warmth, making it a handy layer for those in-between days.
For an easy everyday outfit, wear it over a cosy knit with jeans or your favourite Robell trousers. Heading out for coffee? Add your everyday boots and you’re ready. Planning a relaxed weekend stroll? Layer it over a jumper and keep things comfortable.
It’s also a lovely way to finish an outfit when a knit on its own doesn’t feel quite enough.
